Importance of drinking water
If you are concerned that you are not drinking enough water daily, you are probably correct. Another growing concern is the insufficient amount of water consumed by our children. According to recent statistics found on the internet, more than half of American children are dehydrated, which can have repercussions on their health and academic performance. About one-quarter of children in the US do not drink water daily. To show you how dehydration severely affects function in the body, research shows dehydrated drivers make twice the amount of errors compared to hydrated drivers—an effect similar to drunk drivers. The best thing you can do is to drink more water. Your best bet is trading sweetened, bottled beverages like soda, iced tea, and fruit drinks for pure water which can significantly improve your health. Feel free to squeeze some fresh lemon or lime for flavor. A major rule of thumb is to drink water regularly throughout the day, regardless of thirst. The amount consumed varies depending on age, daily activities, diet, etc. However, a good guideline is to consume half your body weight in ounces. So for example, a 200lb person should consume approximately 100 ounces of water. Almost a gallon of water a day. More water should be added with vigorous exercise and hot weather. This ensures that your body has enough water and can support internal functions for optimal health.
As most of you have heard me say in the past, EAT WELL… MOVE WELL… THINK WELL…
